With the Changing practice course the starting point is each participants current knowledge, their working context (what they do) and their aspirations for a better world. Freire calls this the ‘generative theme’ which becomes the space around which learning is designed and the core catalyst of learning. The generative theme that we worked with in this project was called the Change Project. It is something a participant is passionate about and that affects them deeply and directly. In the case of this course, these generative themes or Change projects are not only linked to individual passions and action in the world but to the broader concerns and issues of social movements.
What we are discovering is that Change Projects continue way after the course is completed, often for many years.
